We are John and Maria, the owners of this market. We don’t particularly like titles; we think of this place as a family that were blessed to be part of. Our lives were full of the same chaos as any other family – twenty years of running our four children around to their activities, a pool full of the neighborhood kids every summer; long hours at the office, and an excess of food and parties. Each day was full speed ahead.
We had no idea that we were on the wrong path until January 2013 when John was diagnosed with Pleomorphic High Grade Undifferentiated Sarcoma and was given eight months to live. By God’s grace, Maria’s support, and a complete 180 degree shift in lifestyle, John survived.
But God wasn’t done with us yet. Eleven months after John’s diagnosis, our house caught on fire and we lost everything. What should have been devastating was actually a blessing.
Yes, you read that right. Losing everything was a blessing.
Farmers sometimes burn their land to fertilize the soil, making way for new growth. Our lives were fertilized in the same way. We’re not sure that our lives are any less chaotic than they were before, but creating opportunities for people to change their lives makes all the difference.
What you eat matters. But it’s more than that. What you think matters. How you move your body matters. What you do with your time matters. How you live your life matters. Wellness in just one facet of your life is not enough. It isn’t sustainable. You must be well in all areas of your life.
For many of you, this may not be something you’re good at. It can be overwhelming to know where to start. We get it. We’ve been there. We’re here to support you.
You are “Our Why.” You are why we get to the market at 5am to buy fresh produce. You are why we stay up late researching the latest wellness studies. You are why we rigorously vet every vendor and product we bring in. You are why we invest in a passionate team that is “on mission” with us. It’s for you. Everything we do is for you.
We are blessed to be part of your journey.
Love,
John and Maria
Products must be made with simple and natural ingredients. The more organic or raw, the better.
The local and global vendors we find are mission-driven, health-focused, and often unique to shoppers.
Flavor is important. Our team tastes every product before giving it the final stamp of approval.
We may work together towards one mission, but we also honor each person’s individuality and journey. Just as we feed the
community, we feed our team members with opportunities to learn, grow, and try new things at Peter Rubi.
The sales floor is on a first-name basis with many of our shoppers. Meet them in the aisles and at checkout.
Our guys transfer new shipments into the store, ensuring all items are fresh and well stocked.
Our chefs take to the kitchen to slice, dice, and prepare ready-to-eat meals.
When not stocking shelves, our grocers research prospective products and vendors.
The back office works behind the scenes, but their efforts help us operate without a hitch.
Every single day, owners and founders John and Maria are on hand to help the Peter Rubi community grow.
We’re on a mission to provide fresh produce, homemade food, and pantry goods to empower people to live a healthier fulfilling lifestyle. We are always looking for pationate individual to join us in our mission.
